GLASGOW / EDINBURGH - AREA

56. GLASGOW / EDINBURGH - SCOTLAND

A: Cathkin Braes, Glasgow - "I discovered this place a couple of years ago, it's used mainly by gays cruising but you often get couples going there too. It's right on the southern edge of Glasgow at the Cathkin Braes, on the road that runs from the East Kilbride Road to Carmunnock. There are seven lay-bys ranging from two car to about six car spaces. Sometimes the couples switch on their interior light to let you see the action better. I've been asked in three times so far..." and "...Cathkin Braes has now got a large, nicely surfaced car-park at the Carmunnock end, so maybe the lay-bys will be shut soon. Try also the narrow roads leading up to EK, but mostly gays there..."

B: Cumbernauld - Palacerigg Country Park, south-east of Cumbernauld. "From Cumbernauld town centre follow signs to South Carbrain and Airdrie - then follow signs to Palacerigg Country Park. When you reach the park gates, turn back and take the first turn on your left into the lay-by. The action takes place not in the park itself, but in this and another lay-by - the first about seventy yards from the main gate on the left and the second about four hundred yards on the right (the second one is the entrance to Cumbernauld Model Flying Club). You can drive through both unless they are again blocked by junk. The lay-bys are frequented by gays, (and Police) during daylight hours so beware! Recent reports of a couple working for the News of the Screws at this site, so no names/phone numbers - be very cautious!"

C: Edinburgh, Gyle Centre - "We go and flash at the Gyle two or three times a week, sometimes pick guys up there in the evening and fuck them..." And another dissatisfied Scotsman: "Maybe time for an updated Guide, your Scotland entries are terrible (or if you're busy maybe just a Brownie). The Gyle place you asked about is a crappy "mall" just outside Edinburgh. Poor folk, eh, all that AND Ikea. From Glasgow, where I am, take the M8 east to the Edinburgh City Bypass. Turn left and it's on the right. From the south via the A1 (or any of the trans-border routes) follow signs for the city by-pass as above and again it's on the right. If you get to Edinburgh Airport, or cross the Forth Road Bridge, you've missed it. Anything happening north of the Forth? Fife, Tayside..."

D: Edinburgh, Makro (Sighthill) - "...peepholes between male and female changing rooms - though not very busy..."

E: Edinburgh, Point Hotel - "...for some reason, curtains are never closed..."

F: Edinburgh, Sheraton Hotel - "...L-shaped, rooms at the end of one of the arms are good..."

G: Glasgow - "Check out Jigsaw in Glasgow the second stairwell up to the men's section allows you to peep into the female cubicles. Lots of topless sights..." BUT new info contradicts this: "...update for the list - the Glasgow Jigsaw shop has moved it's menswear department out of the shop you mentioned. The upstairs is now the girls department..." Er, whoops if so, though it may have changed around again recently!

H: Glasgow, Queen's Park - "...On the south side of the city, at the top of Victoria Road, though it can also be accessed from Pollokshaws Road. Gay cruising goes on at the top of the park, in the area behind the flagpole..." "Enter from top end of Victoria Road. Head up main avenue, up the stairs and take second path on the right heading towards the flagpole. Cruising area is located around this area at the top of the hill... ...mostly gay, but some local couples fuck here in the scrubby bushes during summer and have been known to invite assistance..." Queen's, eh? Another classic name!

I: Kilsyth/Carron Bridge - That barking mad Scotsman continued his mission to update the Guide: "...in celebration of the re-convened parliament, may I offer my favourite Scottish site. The location is known as the "Tak ma doon" Road. It runs from Kilsyth to Carron Bridge in Stirlingshire. Leaving Kilsyth it's a very narrow road, single track with passing places. Beyond the crest of the hill is a car-park on the right, occasionally frequented by CB freaks and regularly by couples who tolerate/welcome watchers and or participants. Young joint rollers also hang out there so the law appear from time to time but by and large it's OK..." These road names get dafter... ...should be "Tak 'em doon", Jimmy!

J: Langbank, West Ferry - "Off the M8 motorway, seven miles west of Glasgow airport on the Clyde. From Glasgow, turn left off motorway at Langbank, cross under the motorway to the right towards the water, the small car-park to the north is where couples perform to an appreciative audience, mostly evenings, also in deserted caravan park to south. Many gays here also." "Take the Bishopton, exit, is J31 M8, regular couples putting on shows in evenings!" "All ages, active during the day and until about midnight. During the day, leave your car and walk along the track to the left of the parking area towards the wooded area, which is where most of the gay action takes place. Particularly active at the weekends, but activity is, as always, subject to weather. Thursday nights often see two or three regular couples who openly fuck and play." "Take the M8 towards Greenock. Exit at M8 J31 (Bishopton). At the bottom of the slip-road go all the way round the roundabout and the parking area is on the Clydeside overlooking the river towards Dumbarton Rock..."

K: Mugdock Country Park - "North of Glasgow, beyond Bearsden/Milngavie, couples showing and sharing!" Onny wrote (June 2000): "Now that the cat is very definitely out of the bag re Mugdock County Park it's maybe best to ensure we all know there are four car-parks worth visiting in the park. First, just north of Milngavie on the road beside and to the west of the reservoir. Good daytime site though frequented by dog walkers. Possible to get away from the entries to the great outdoors and hide up towards the end. Second, a third of a mile past this to the left on a bad bend going uphill. Haven't seen any intentional exhibitionism there, EVER. Next, back onto the road going uphill, past a small hamlet and two right turns and off to the left. Three distinct car parking areas. Good sightings, though the geography not conducive to nocturnal natural light. OK by day too. Some riders, people and horses (uncomfortable in the middle and dangerous at either end). Lastly, some three-quarters of a mile beyond here, also off to the left and beyond the outdoor centre and tea room (good carrot cake) is the Khyber Car Park. Nuff said? Friendly nature warden and nutty girl in a Clio, not together I hesitate to add. Bummer!"

L: Muiravonside Country Park - "Near Falkirk, take the first turning on the left after you enter the park, lots of little bays to park up in and watch or be watched, various sexy couples go there after 10:00pm and often take on watchers and players..." "Follow the road in, mind the speed bumps, there's a dip then on the left is the bit where most couples go for sex, but continue past there and go into the main car-park for pick-ups. Also you can leave your car here and walk back to see the other car-park if you wish, have seen all sorts here over the years. Take a bird Guide with you for cover and learn a few bird names, always works... ...even if the tits you are after don't have feathers!"

M: Paisley - A site no more: "Brayhead near Paisley on the M8 was a famous 1980s dogging site and visitors will be sad to discover that it is an ex-site, being instead buried under yet another out-of-town shopper's paradise. Supposedly very busy a few years back, but now gone. Similar story re Port Dundas industrial estate in central Glasgow, which once had several deserted dark cul-de-sac areas near the city centre, but is now being redeveloped." (TLK) "This site is now a shopping centre; no shagging, but worth visiting to watch the totty any day of the week - it's Girlie Heaven!"

N: Strathclyde Country Park, near Hamilton - "A busy place for couples is Strathclyde Park, just off the M74 at Motherwell. It's usually after dark before couples appear, although I have seen a couple of shows during the day, especially at weekends. Try the rough car-park behind the Ferris wheel in the first instance (not the tarmac area). To catch the daytime shows you really need to hang about all day, every day, so you really have to just be in luck. At night, especially at weekends there are a few couples putting on shows, occasionally with some interaction. There are about a dozen different car-parks so you have to keep moving to catch a show. Two main drawbacks, one causing the other - there are a lot of gays cruising the park, even during the day, the result is the Police visit regularly. They never bother couples but they assume all single men are on a gay cruise, so it's excuses at the ready! You can also try the RSPB nature reserve in Motherwell, where couples sometimes go after meeting up in the park itself. Lots of hides and great excuses for carrying binoculars!"

"Hi, new to this... ...found the site by chance. My wife and I are interested in being watched, have been watched a few times in past "accidentally". I am familiar with a few of the areas in Central Scotland on your site list, and I can assure you that if they were dogging sites in the past, they definitely aren't now! We are new to being a bit exhibitionistic, but found we got a great buzz the first time we were aware of someone trying to watch us. We are both a bit nervous about it, which I suppose just adds to the excitement. We used to frequent Strathclyde Park, not to be watched, just to have some sexy fun in the car, if someone happened to watch this would add to the fun as long as they weren`t too pushy or too obvious. This happened once or twice, if someone became too obvious we just packed up. To be honest, the times when we were feeling particularly horny and were prepared to go a step further, (don`t know how further), probably giving someone a good view of my wife naked, and probably her sucking me, every time we felt this way we never ever saw anyone trying to watch. As for other couples using the area there were quite a lot, but there were no signs that they were exhibitionists, just couples out for a shag. And I would say any Doggers would be most unwelcome! if this is common with most of the sites, I think some people are getting mixed up about sites where couples get some enjoyment from others being near "possibly watching", and couples genuinely just parked up and having a good time. Sorry to have gone on a bit, I was just wondering what others views were. Cheers. H&S"

Central scotland:
beecraigs country park, near linlithgow in west lothian. there are three car-parks which are closed at night, but action takes place after 10pm around the balvormie car-park where there are some great hidey-holes along the narrow one-track road. usually only watching / no participation. may occasionally be moved-on by ranger but not a problem. might see u there??
