DURHAM - GENERAL

16. DURHAM - GENERAL

A: Darlington - "I have a heard reports that the lay-by at Swan House in Darlington has some action in place. This is located about one and a half to two miles along the Darlington to Corbridge road and is surrounded by trees, there is a secluded path leading away from the area, and I am told this is where the action takes place. The site is also used by the local gay community."

B: Causey Arch, near Beamish - "A picnic area at Beamish (near the museum)..." "A great site for couples and singles is Causey Arch car-park, between Sunnyside and Stanley, five miles from Gateshead, plenty to 'see and do'" However, opinions differ quite widely on this one: "Caution: monitored by Police as it is a gay area, with a public toilet open all hours. It also has a bad reputation for car theft as it is screened from the main road." "To find Causey Arch, leave Stanley along the road to Sunnyside. You will drive along a long flat road out of town and on the right is a pub called "The Causey Arch". Turn left over the railway crossing and left again into the picnic area, where there are three small car-parks. Miss the first entrance and you can always creep in the second one, further down the hill. There is a walk down to the old Arch bridge, and some activities have been seen in summer." "LOTS of gay activity at Causey Arch, men going into bushes together etc... ...still seen nothing hetero here, despite the best efforts of the wife and myself!" (TLK)

C: Rushyford - "Off A1 take exit for A689 to Rushyford, south of Durham. Before roundabout is a long lay-by behind trees. Gay area but known for couples as well. If couples in here it is probable they are looking for action."

D: Seaham Harbour - "Reports of a couple parking next to toilet block and looking for involvement, although this report is not recent. Note - gay area."

E: Stanley Frewd - "Car-park on back road behind "The Causey Arch" pub turn right past the pub, and down the hill (car-park is locked in winter)..." "...the nearest Town is Stanley (between Chester-Le-Street and Consett - not the Stanley at Crook)."

F: Tow Law - "...picnic site right next to the B6296... ...have met with two sets of couples over the past year... ...one of those couples actually advertises in newsgroups and that was where I got the place from. Saturday/Sunday evenings are best after dark in the picnic area. I give this the highest rating, having actually participated!"
